Intensive Care 1

For the next 12 - 14 days Aidan will be in a morphine induced coma and pharmacological paralysis, in other words he will be on lots of drugs to keep him calm and perfectly still while his esophagus is under tension and growing. The first time I saw Aidan after surgery I was very frightened of all the tubes and wires and IV lines he was connected to.
Aidan Incision is currently covered by the white bandage across his shoulder blade. The 2 clear buttons partially covered by the white bandage are what is used to bring the sutures out so Dr. Foker can stretch Aidan's esophagus.
Aidan has so many tubes / wires so I labeled them all for you.
Gastric drainage tube - empties the stomach.
Chest tube - drains any blood, fluid, air, or pus from the space around his lungs.
Urinary catheter - empties his bladder.
Medical monitor - constantly tracks his vital signs.
Intubation tube / Ventilator - Aidan cannot breath while paralyzed and this does the work of his lungs. see detailed picture below.
"Intravenous Spaghetti" - Delivers a multitude of drugs and fluids. he has a central line in his neck as well as peripheral IV in his hands which are stabilized by the IV Armboards. see detailed picture below.
Intubation tube / Ventilator detail - This will monitor his breathing.
"Intravenous Spaghetti" detail - This is all the pumps and tubes that will help Aidan be comfortable.
